It is a contract of three years, renewable up to a maximum of two times. That means the longest period a Secretary General can serve is nine years. 4. Where does the Secretariat get financial resources for its operations?
According to the Statues, this should come from annual contributions by the owners of the Secretariat who are bishop-members of the Zambia Episcopal Conference. Thus the Secretariat does not receive any subsidy from the Vatican. Given the difficulties faced by the members of the Conference, the Secretariat supplements their efforts by fund-raising ventures such as writing project proposals, holding gala dinners, soliciting donations and above all by serious engagement in income generating ventures.
