The Franciscan Sisters of Assisi have elected Sr. Theresa Chisanga, FMSA, Provincial Superior.
This was at the just ended Chapter held in Ibenga, Mpongwe District on the Copperbelt Province in Zambia.
Sr. Chisanga who joined the Franciscan Sisters in 1976 when she made her first profession was until her appointment working at the Vatican Embassy in Lusaka.
Sr. Chisanga who is the elder sister to Bishop Patrick Chisanga, the Bishop of Mansa, has also worked in many portfolios within her Congregation including as Provincial Secretary, Postulant and as Noviate Mistress.
Other members elected to the Council include Sr.Rosalia Kateule as Vicar Provincial, Sr. Annie Mwiimbe Secretary and the Councillors are Srs. Annie Chiluba and Pascalina Mambwe.
The Franciscan Sisters are a Congregation founded in Italy by Fr. Anthony Joseph Marcheselli, OFM. Conv. and Mother Angela de Gilio in 1703.
The Franciscan Sisters of Assisi congregation which came to Zambia in 1960 and works in Lusaka, Ndola and Solwezi Dioceses has since extended its missionary to Malawi.
The mission of the Franciscan Sisters of Assisi is to spread the Gospel especially among the poor and the needy through hospital care, teaching and taking care of the handicapped.
