Holy See Secretary for Relations with States, Archbishop Paul Richard Gallagher has expressed profound gratitude to the Zambian Government for the bond that has existed between the Holy See and Zambia as it has contributed to the promotion of the growth of the Catholic Church and development of the country.  He was speaking at the 50th Anniversary celebrations of the diplomatic relations between the Holy See and the Republic of Zambia on November 9, 2015.
Archbishop Gallagher noted that the diplomatic relations that exists between the Holy See and Zambia have seen the fruitful growth of the Catholic Church, with her institutions such as education and healthcare open to all, without  distinction and without any other aim, save that of the progress and care of the dignity of each person.
“In these 50 years, the active role of the Catholic Church in Zambia has been appreciated and recognised by successive governments. We are grateful to the various Presidents, for such respectful relations and recognition,” Archbishop Gallagher said.
He further said that the Catholic Church was ready to collaborate in the development of individual citizens of Zambia especially the poor and the weak. “The Catholic Church is happy to collaborate, as she always has done and will continue to do, in the hope of building a country ever more beautiful and vigorous, where the care of the environment is an integral part of development,” the Pope’s envoy said.
The diplomatic relations between the Holy See and Zambia was opened on 27th October 1965. Meanwhile Archbishop Gallagher has left for Malawi on a diplomatic mission.
