Zambia Conference of Catholic Bishops (ZCCB) formerly Zambia Conference of Catholic Bishops (ZEC) says has reminded humanity that its role within creation is to serve and to keep God's garden, the earth.
In his message to mark World day of prayer for the care of creation which falls on 1st September, Zambia Conference of Catholic Bishops (ZCCB) Secretary General Father Cleophas Lungu has explained that to serve, often times translated as to till, invites people again to envision themselves as servants, while to keep calls mankind to take care of the earth. Father Lungu said that Human beings, in service to God, have a special role on behalf of the whole of creation. “Made in the image of God, we are called to care for the earth as God cares for the earth. God's command to have dominion and subdue the earth is not a license to dominate and exploit. Human dominion (Gen 1:28), a special responsibility, should reflect God's way of ruling as a shepherd king who takes the form of a servant” He said. And Father Lungu has said that the earth is a planet of beauty and abundance, but its system is wonderfully intricate and incredibly complex with its living creatures, and the air, soil, and water that support them, facing unprecedented threats. The Holy Father, Pope Francis has declared 1st of September as the world day of prayer for the care of creation.
