Bishop_Handmaid_SistersMongu Diocese Bishop, Rt. Rev. Evans Chinyemba says that Religious Sisters living together in a community testifies that people from different backgrounds and groupings can live together in harmony and share life together.

Bishop Chinyemba was speaking during the homily at the Eucharistic celebration at Marian Shrine in Lusaka during the Silver Jubilee celebration, Final Profession and Simple Profession of 12 Handmaid Sisters of the Blessed Virgin Mary on Saturday July 1, 2017.

“In the world, today where you find fragmented community experiences be it in our Church or Society; people not being able to live together in community as one people, you [sisters] want to give witness to the possibility of living together,” Bishop Chinyemba said.

Bishop Chinyemba further said “The sisters coming from different backgrounds, regions of the country, different tongues to build up a community is a witness we give and it becomes a shining example of how people [should] live in the world today. You sisters are speaking to us today in Zambia that it is possible in the midst of language differences, tribe differences, and origin that are different people can live and be happy together.”

Bishop Chinyemba reminded the sisters that the mission of evangelisation can only be fulfilled when it is done in communion with others that it is not a “one woman show; it is not left to an individual imagination, acting alone – me, myself and the I. Evangelisation is a community agenda.” He therefore called the Sisters to accept in obedience to live in community and accept to serve wherever they are sent despite the challenges they will encounter.

The sisters who celebrated their silver jubilee Srs. Lucy Phiri, Assumpta Choongo, Sr. Aurillia Mutema, Agnes Chirwa and Prisca Chuzu while Srs. Collect Mweene, Chuma Kabati, Regina Wapa, Laetitia Kasanda and Caritas Hibajene made their final commitment to religious life. The two Sisters Agness Zulu and Josephine Haanziba made their temporary vows.
