Zambia Episcopal Conference (ZEC) Secretary General Rev. Fr. Cleophas Lungu
Zambia Episcopal Conference (ZEC) Secretary General Rev. Fr. Cleophas Lungu says bad liturgical celebration will subject the Catholic Church to be seen as a bad church.
Fr. Lungu has said people have joined the Catholic Church after seeing the order of liturgy when they visit the church.
Speaking Tuesday, 24th May, 2016 when he opened a 4-day National Liturgical Workshop on how to celebrate mass, Father Lungu added that the liturgy should focus on God as the centre.
He also noted with dismay the conduct of some master of ceremonies, choir masters and others involved in liturgical celebration.
“People have joined the Catholic Church because of the way we conduct mass in a very orderly manner. The Liturgy must reflect the rhythm of the Catholic Church. A number of times people want to introduce Pentecostal kind of worship, which is a concern to the church. And some master of ceremonies, choir masters and others involved in liturgical celebration do not do well, maybe it’s because they are not trained” he noted.
The ZEC Secretary General has also noted that there is need to follow the right gestures in church. He says that that some gestures and conduct of singing should be questioned whether they are helping people to pray or not.
Meanwhile Father Lungu has reiterated Zambia Catholic Bishops’ call for priests not to politicise the sanctity of the pulpit as Zambia goes to the polls on August 11, 2016. “The Bishops in their January 2016 Pastoral letter urged all the priests not to politicise the pulpit. Bishops want to protect the sanctity of the altar. Do not surrender it to politicians. Take this guidance from the Bishops seriously” He said.
The liturgical workshop was being attended by Priests, Sisters and the Lay people who are members of the Liturgical Committees in all the dioceses in Zambia.
