If you want peace and quiet for a day or have a workshop – contact us at Kapingila Guest House.

Room

Kapingila Guest House is dedicated to the memory of Zakaria Kapingila.

Zakaria Kapingila was the first Zambian Diocesan Priest. He was ordained for Chipata Diocese then called Fort Jameson. Zakaria Kapingila was born in 1908 in a small village near Mzipazi, not far from Chipata, then called Fort Jameson.

Mzipazi was part of St. Mary’s, a mission founded in 1938. The Mission post was the Headquarters of Monsignor Ferdinand Martin, a White Father Priest, who was in charge of the Apostolic Prefecture since July 1937. Zakaria Kapingila was ordained a priest by Bishop Guilem`e in a temporary church at St. Mary’s mission on 10 November 1939. He was appointed to Naviruli, the mission that had taken the place of Mphangwe, just before World War II.

Zakaria Kapingila was a joyful priest who devoted all his energies to the spiritual happiness of his people. Food was scarce during the war and life in and around the mission very harsh. At the beginning of 1948 Zakaria became very ill. He died peacefully on 17 February 1948, only 39 years old.

Kapingila Guest House is dedicated to the memory of this pioneering Zambian Diocesan Priest.
